Methods for Determine Underground Pile Lengths?

Determination of pile length under the existing structure is challenging because the investigation method must be non-destructive to maintain the integrity of the structure. Determining the lengths of existing or old underground piles requires a combination of investigative techniques, including historical records, non-destructive testing, and visual inspections. Here’s a step-by-step approach:

There are several methods available in the literature for pile-length investigation. The methods for foundation investigation can be broadly classified into Direct and Indirect methods. Direct methods such as Sonic logging testing require access to the pile where accelerometers are attached close to the top of the pile, Parallel Seismic,  Borehole Radar, and  Borehole Electrical Resistivity.

Applying the principle of electromagnetic induction, using a high-frequency transmitting antenna to create a fluctuating electromagnetic field that spreads in conductive objects, relying on the receiving antenna to collect data.  

Equipment includes:

– RD signal receiver displays signal strength parameters.

– The Tx transmitter allows transmission of different frequencies and different powers.

– The sensor is driven down for logging signal in the well

Implementation process for determining underground Pile Lengths -Bored piles- Driven piles?

Based on the operating principle of the device, including 2 processes:

Survey and analyze data at the scene.

Firstly, Drill a borehole next to Larsen piles, bored piles, bridge abutments, and centrifugal pressed piles at a distance of 1.5m

Secondly, Check the machine and set the appropriate machine operating parameters

Thirdly, Proceed to drop tools to measure electromagnetic induction and elastic waves in the borehole to collect data

Finally, Analyze and process results using specialized software at the office.
